OUR SCHOOLS

When school boards and city councils don't work together, students suffer. Strong relationships are entirely possible. As Mayor, I will make it my priority to create a culture of sharing and mutual concern for the children in our schools.

Here is how I intend to do so:

  • Share pride in our students. Display student art in municipal buildings, have a student chorus open a city council meeting. We are a small town…let’s draw upon our strengths, and our bonds as neighbors. Students need encouragement and attention from as many sources as possible. Let's show the children in our community we care and are paying attention to their wins and what brings them pride and a sense of accomplishment.

  • Encourage the school board to involve officials from the city council (and other agencies and jurisdictions) in its strategic planning meetings.
